Short Course: Polymer Simulations, March 1-2

Gary Grest and Dvora Perahia are leading this year’s well-subscribed DPOLY short course: “Multiscale Computational Approaches for Simulating Polymers from Atomistic to Mesoscale.”
  • A description and schedule are available online
  • A limited number of scholarships are available for students, postdocs and junior faculty. The application deadline for full consideration is February 15.
    Please apply to Dvora Perahia with Subject: DPOLY Short Course Support Request.
    These scholarships will be awarded against receipts after the meeting.

March Meeting in Denver, March 2-7

  • DPOLY reception, Sunday, 5:30 – 9:00 pm.
    Welcome to all at Jazz@Jack’s (located in Denver Pavilions, 500 16th Street Mall #320, 3rd level). This is a unique Denver venue and there will be live music. The DPOLY reception celebrates Karl Freed and Ryan Hayward, winners of the Polymer Physics Prize and the Dillon Medal, respectively.
  • Full Program Monday through Friday.
    The program committee (chaired by Kari Dalnoki-Veress) has organized excellent symposia. Thanks to all members for your abstracts and ideas.
    The program booklet will be mailed to DPOLY members shortly and is available online format_pdf.
  • DPOLY Award Symposia, Tuesday. See details in the Program booklet.
  • DPOLY Business Meeting, Tuesday, 5:45 pm.
  • Joint Poster Session, Wednesday, 11:15 am – 2:15 pm in Exhibit Hall F.
    We are pleased to have a joint poster session the DCP, DBIO and GSNP.

Volunteers Needed

  • DPOLY Membership Table, Monday - Wednesday.   If you can volunteer for a one or two hour time slot (8am -5pm) at the membership table, please send an email with your preferred date and time to Mark Foster. Volunteers will sign up new DPOLY members and distribute program booklets to new and international members.  It’s a great way to meet people!
  • APS Contact Congress Booth, Please contact Steve Hudson to work with APS to solicit attendees to write their members of Congress about budget issues.

DPOLY Election Results

Wesley Burghardt was elected the new Vice Chair and Venkat Ganesan was elected the new Member at Large of the Executive Committee. We enthusiastically look forward to their service to the division. We also thank Ali Dhinojwala and Svetlana Sukhishvili for standing for election. (Approximately 27% of DPOLY membership participated in the election. Thank you.)

Polymer Physics Gordon Research Seminar. July 12-13, Mount Holyoke College, South Hadley, MA. This forum for graduate students and post-docs, “At the Intersection between Physics,Chemistry, and Engineering,” is chaired by Laura Gray.
