STEP UP Ambassadors empower fellow teachers to inspire young women to pursue physics by changing cultural views about physicists through the use of evidence-based teaching resources designed to help young women see themselves as “physics people.”
Joe Muise
St. Thomas More Collegiate
Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada
As part of the 2020-2021 STEP UP Ambassador Cohort, Joe is modifying the U.S.-based STEP UP materials into Canadian-friendly lessons by increasing the representation of Canadian women and Canadian statistics. He is piloting these with his class, while also networking with the Canadian Association of Physicists and other organizations to encourage others to inspire young women to pursue physics. Through articles and presentations at workshops, Joe is disseminating information about STEP UP and gender equity in physics.
