March Meeting 2018 Energy Research Workshop

Sunday, March 4, 2018
Los Angeles, CA

GERA has sponsored an annual Workshop held the Sunday before the beginning of the March Meeting for the last few years. This event, intended primarily for graduate students, has proven to be very popular. Each year the Workshop is organized around a theme. The 2018 workshop to be held in Los Angeles on Sunday, March 4 will focus on “The Future of Sustainable Approaches to Energy” and is co-sponsored with the Forum for Early Career Scientists. The workshop consists of a series of talks by leading experts in the field, lunch with the experts, and a panel discussion.

Keynote Address
"Renewables and Pathways for Energy Security."
Peter F. Green, NREL

Peter GreenPeter F. Green is the Deputy Laboratory Director for Science and Technology, and the Chief Research Officer (CRO), for the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL). Green began his career at Sandia National Laboratories in 1985 and in 1996 he moved to the University of Texas, Austin, where he was Professor of Chemical Engineering, and became the B.F. Goodrich Professor of Materials Engineering. In 2005 he was recruited to the University of Michigan to become Chair of the Department of Materials Science and Engineering. Green was the Vincent T. and Gloria M. Gorguze Professor of Engineering. He was also Professor of Chemical Engineering, and of Applied Physics. From 2009-2015, he was the Principal Investigator and the DOE Energy Frontier Center (EFRC) – Center for solar and thermal energy conversion (CSTEC).

Dr. Green is a former President of the Materials Research Society (MRS). He is a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (UK) and Fellow of the American Physical Society. Green is a former Divisional Associate Editor for Physical Review Letters (PRL) and is an APS “Outstanding Referee.” He earned B.A. and M.A. degrees in Physics in 1981 from Hunter College, N.Y., and his doctorate in Materials Science and Engineering from Cornell University in 1985.

A limited number of spots for this workshop will be available, check back for application/registration information soon.
