On March 30, the Barry Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Foundation announced the recipients of the 2018 Goldwater Scholarship. The scholarship, which was created in 1989, is awarded to sophomores and juniors at universities across the United States. To receive the Goldwater Scholarship, a student must display an aptitude for and dedication to pursuing research.
Out of more than 1200 applicants, 211 students from a variety of natural science, engineering, and mathematics backgrounds were awarded the one- or two- year scholarship—depending on sophomore or junior classification—that covers tuition, fees, books, room and board up to $7,500 per year. The 33 students who are majoring in physics or astronomy were also awarded with a one-year membership to APS.
