To uphold its values of diversity, inclusion, and respect, APS advances a number of initiatives to mentor and support student diversity in all levels of physics education.
The APS Bridge Program is a post-baccalaureate program lasting one to two years that provides students with research experience, advanced coursework, and coaching to prepare them for a graduate school application.
Through the Inclusive Graduate Education Network (IGEN), APS partners with other organizations to support Black, Latinx, and Indigenous students as they pursue doctoral degrees in the physical sciences.
The APS National Mentoring Community (NMC) facilitates and supports mentoring relationships between Black/African, Latinx, and Indigenous undergraduate physics students and physics mentors.
APS Programs
Diversity, inclusion, and respect are part of APS’s core values, and to foster them within the physics community, APS supports a number of programs aimed at recruiting, representing, and supporting underrepresented minorities in physics, women, and LGBT+ community members.
Society of Physics Students (SPS)
An organization of the American Institute of Physics, SPS welcomes all students and their advisors who share an interest in physics.
APS membership connects physicists, educators, researchers, scientists, and students across academia and industry in an international community. Join APS Today
APS Inclusion, Diversity, and Equity Alliance (APS IDEA) empowers and supports physics organizations to identify and enact strategies for improving equity, diversity, and inclusion.
