New Report: "How International Students and Researchers Benefit the United States: Their Experiences, Their Stories"

October 28, 2020

Pushing back against the Trump Administration’s plans to restrict particular visa categories that are essential to science and economic competitiveness, the APS Office of Government Affairs released a new report titled “How International Students and Researchers Benefit the United States: Their Experiences, Their Stories.”

The report highlights the importance of the Optional Practical Training (OPT) and J-1 visa programs—both viewed as vulnerable under the current Administration—through stories about talented international students and scholars who chose to study and work in the United States. Their experiences make clear just how important these students and scholars are to both the physics community and US scientific enterprise. Further, the report provides context for policy discussions on how to restore the United States as a destination for the best and brightest in the world.
