The
Four Corners Section of the American Physical Society has organized a High School Essay
competition in the 4 Corners States. The topic is “Einstein in the 21st
Century.” We received a $400 mini grant
from the Forum of Education of the APS, which has helped enormously to start a successful
drive for additional financial support. We
have received about 200 entries and are now in the process to judge the entries. There
will be one winner from each state. The winners will be invited to participate in our
annual meeting, October 14-15, 2005 in Boulder, Colorado, where they will present their
winning essay and receive and award of $ 100 each.
The names of the winner and the title
of their winning essay will be published.
Mini-grants
from the FEd of up to $500 are available to schools and APS units for projects in physics
education and to address issues concerning the preparation of K-12 teachers. These grants can be used to
support teacher preparation workshops and/or special sessions at APS and joint APS/AAPT
(regional) meetings. Apply
to Ramon Lopez, FEd Chair, or Bruce Mason, FEd Secretary-Treasurer. |
